Many of your chapters are looking for good ways to help the victims in Japan. Here is a good link through our sister organization, UN Foundation http://www.unfoundation.org/global-issues/united-nations/japan.html to benefit the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).
Please join me in donating to help to the victims.

Jane Roberts, author
of "34 Million Friends of the Women of the World" |
Jane Roberts, co founder of 34
Million Friends of the UN Population Fund spoke to the UNA -USA San
Fernando Valley Chapter on March 3 on the campus of Cal State Northridge.
Her topic was Women, Gender Equality and the Millennium Development Goals.
She summarized exactly what the United Nations Family Planning Assn.
(UNFPA) does in over 150 countries of the world emphasizing its work
to save women’s lives in childbirth and to offer the family planning
that we all take for granted. She opined that unless MDG 5 to Improve
Maternal Health is fully implemented, the other 7 goals will not be achieved.
With the world headed toward 9 billion people, there will be great stress
on people, the planet, and peace.
Hillary Clinton laments that globally women and girls are the "majority
of the world's unhealthy, unschooled, unfed and unpaid." Ban Ki-Moon,
Secretary-General of the United Nations states that "In women, the
world has the most significant but UNTAPPED potential for development and
peace." Jane Roberts tied this all together and showed that empowering
women and girls with education, health, equality, and human rights is the
basis of any hope for people, the planet, and peace.
Attending were several members of UNA and about 40 students from two different Women’s Studies classes. Jane gave out her book to several students. David Tuckman, UNA Chapter President then gave Jane a beautiful Certificate of Appreciation which was signed by David and by Ginny Hatfield, Co-Chapter President.
