About the United Nations Association

The United Nations Association of the United States of America is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to building understanding of and support for the ideals and vital work of the United Nations among the American people. Its educational and humanitarian campaigns, including teaching students in urban schools, clearing minefields and providing school-based support for children living in HIV/AIDS-affected communities in Africa, allow people to make a global impact at the local level. In addition, its policy and advocacy programs stress the importance of nations working together and the need for United States leadership in the United Nations. The association is affiliated with the World Federation of United Nations Associations.

The San Fernando Valley Chapter is one of ten chapters under the UNA Southern California Division.

About the San Fernando Valley
United Nations Association Chapter

The UNA-San Fernando Valley (UNA-SFV) is a group of people who have come together to help the United Nations achieve their goals and promote their ideals in the United States. We are focused on helping the United Nations help the world. Our chapter is concerned that the world’s poorest people should be able to take advantage of all that life has to offer, including healthcare and education; UNA-SFV feels that people can’t truly progress without a healthy environment and family life. There needs to be human rights around the globe!  When we help the most unfortunate individuals we help make the world safer and better for ourselves and our children, also.

In the past we have worked on:

  • Campaigns to rid the world of landmines

  • Promote the United Nations ideals in our schools.  We have been working with Cal State Northridge, Pierce College and we plan to approach other schools, also.

  • Promote dental care in war-torn Afghanistan through the Afghan Dental Relief Projects

  • Promote use of safe energy. We need to accomplish this through doing such things as installing solar roofs, buying fuel-efficient cars like plug in hybrid vehicles, making our homes more energy efficient.  By using safer energy generation we can eliminate dangerous nuclear energy, especially in Southern California’s San Onofre Nuclear Generating Plant.

  • We actively support programs such as the UNA High School Essay Contest, Model United Nations, Millennium Development Goals, and UNICEF .
